Join our mission to create a better world for MGVM and beyond.
At MGVM , our mission is to present the faces behind the statistics of Americans killed by gun . Through the art of portraiture, each "Marcher" tells a symbolic story why their lives made a difference, and the loss their deaths mean to us all. Each original is then given to a loved one, as a tool with which to transform grief from lonely helplessness to a determination to enact change.
The final goal of this mission is to connect with every other artist or group of artists undertaking similar independent projects and build a site that would feature one million portraits of Americans killed by gun. This would rank as possibly the largest themed art exhibit in the world. Imagine greeting the portrait memorials of people spaning every age, every background, every personal identity, every experience, joined together by this one common fact. Someone with a gun killed them all. That may be what it takes to achieve basic gun safety legislation in this country. I'm honored to do my part.

There are a handful of artist projects working to bring the faces behind the statistics to the public. One is Vanta Black's exquisite white pastel on black paper series Victims of Gun Violence: A Memorial Project from Miami, Florida. Another is "Faces Not Forgotten" from St. Louis, Missouri. "Souls Shot", from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is another group bringing the forgotten and ignored to light. What makes MGVM different? Join me as I take a deep dive into the Group Portraits of MGVM.
